Homemade Low-Carb Steak Sauce Recipe

How to make low-carb steak sauce

Many people are finding success with losing weight with a low-carb eating plan. In very basic terms, a low-carb eating plan is limiting your consumption of carbohydrates (flour, sugar, bread, pasta and rice) and eating mostly vegetables, fat and protein. While the eating plan is controversial, millions of people are losing weight and controlling their blood sugar. By eating a low-carbohydrate diet, many people say they are healing from health problems such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, mood disorders and anemia as well as diabetes by eating this way.

One common problem with those following the low-carb lifestyle is finding condiments that are not filled with sugar. Eating a steak with a steak sauce that is high in carbohydrates will ruin your weight loss efforts quickly.

Steak sauce is a favorite condiment in my household and after several attempts I have finally created a homemade low-carb steak sauce that is loved by everyone - even the kids!

  • 1 cup tomato sauce (check the carbohydrate counts - some manufacturers add sugar to their tomato sauce)
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 heaping tablespoons brown sugar substitute (I use Splenda)
  • 1 tablespoon mustard

Put all the ingredients in a pot and simmer on low for about 40 minutes making sure to stir often. Take off of the burner and let cool. Strain the mixture and discard the diced onion (or use it in another dish.) Pour in a jar and store in refrigerator.

I am unsure of how long the low-carb steak sauce will remain edible when stored, however I make large batches every month so it stays good for at least 30 days. This low-carb steak sauce recipe is safe for those who are on Atkins Induction as well as all other low-carb eating plans and tastes better than A-1 steak sauce! You can also adjust the ingredients when you make your own condiments - some people like their steak sauce tangy while others prefer a milder taste.

Another bonus to making your own steak sauce is the savings in your wallet. In my area, steak sauce costs about $5 for a small bottle while all the above ingredients only cost me pennies per serving.

Making your own low-carb condiments is easy and can be fun for the whole family while losing weight and eating great food.
